Abstract

At the beginning of the Carte du Ciel project, a few stellar parallaxes were known only. At the end of the project, Hipparcos/Tycho takes the lead of the study of the dimension of the nearby universe. Hipparcos is - and Gaia will also be - a revenge of astrometry as an irreplaceable tool for astrophysics; they are also, with Tycho-2, a one hundred years bridge with the Carte du Ciel. After describing the context in astrometry, we comment in details the content, use, and success of these projects.
